OUR BACKGROUND
I started my Carpentry Apprenticeship in 1980 in Manitoba under the tutelage of a registered Architect, who was also a custom homebuilder. I worked for five years with his company under numerous European trained Journeymen Carpenters, and later on, took over the building component of his company while he focused on the Architectural portion of his practice. I have primarily built custom homes and completed complex residential renovations since then.
My wife and I moved to Vancouver Island in 1989 and I began working for myself. Over the course of the past thirty-two years on the Island I have taken numerous courses in Log Building, Timber Framing, Cob & Straw-bale Construction, Passive House Design, Building Science, Joinery, Project Management and Green Building.

From 2003 to 2007 I primarily contracted for a local high-end developer, hiring and managing over twenty employees and apprenticing numerous carpenters along the way.
In 2013 I was hired as a Senior Project Manager by a residential homebuilding company out of Sidney. Until my leaving in 2019 I completed numerous multi-million dollar custom homes, and several residential renovations.
Over the past 43 years, I have attended numerous building seminars, conferences and information sessions. These have taken me throughout North America. My goal throughout this ongoing education has been the pursuit of knowledge with the intent to share my passion for construction with others. Throughout this time I have apprenticed seven carpenters and shared information with trades and clients. I still enjoy learning about building today.

The basis of my career has been the relationships with clients and a deep care for the homes I work on. These relationships with people and structure extend far past completion.
When I’m not building, I can be found around my home in Sooke reading, woodworking, listening to music, and spending time with my family.
